The missense variant, M259T, in ANGPTL3 may play an independent protective role in the risk of kidney disease, according to results of a study using the Penn Medicine Biobank (PMBB) in which over 25% of individuals with genetic data are of African (AFR) ancestry. The M259T variant has an African Genome Aggregation Database (gnomAD) minor allele frequency (MAF) of 0.05 compared to a European MAF of 7.30E-05.
