Professor Ioanna Gouni-Berthold is an Internist, Endocrinologist and Head of the Lipid Research Clinic at the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine at the University of Cologne, Germany.
She received her training at Universities such as the Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts and the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
Prof. Gouni-Berthold has been selected as one of the top experts in Endocrinology and Lipid Disorders in Germany by the acclaimed publication FOCUS GESUNDHEIT and has been repeatedly named as a World Expert in Hyperlipidemia by Expertscape. She is an Executive Board Member of the International Atherosclerosis Society and of the German, Austrian and Swiss Society for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases. Prof. Gouni-Berthold is a member of a number of National and International Societies such as the American Endocrine Society, the German Endocrine Society and the European Atherosclerosis Society. She is a member of the editorial board of multiple international Journals and has served as an Expert-Reviewer of the European Commission Framework Programs on Life Sciences, Genomics and Biotechnology for Health. Her main research interests include lipid and metabolic disorders, lipid-modifying treatments, diabetes and atherosclerosis. She continues to serve as a Steering Committee member of multiple international pivotal lipid trials. Professor Gouni-Berthold has received multiple awards and her work has been published in Journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, European Heart Journal and Diabetes Care.
